2) Select the activities which are relevant to your project concept developed in Assignment # 4. For example:
3) Write an extensive paragraph to explain which suggestions and activities you chose from those resources for your own service learning project. Which tips did you find useful ? Which activities fit your service learning plan? Which steps do you plan to follow? 4) When planning your service learning activities feel free to work in teams with other teachers from your school, with local NGOs or local public authorities. 5) All service learning activities will be implemented from February 13 to March 12.

First, we have done an investigation like a survey asking pupils what issue do they care about most? So, during 5 min they had to write the answer to the question given in the survey. Most of the pupils considered Health or Healthy lifestyle a great topic for investigation when the issue was chosen it was time to learn more about it, because we have planned to do a 45 min creative lesson with 3rd graders at the lesson “Stay Healthy” (lesson five, Module five) according the curriculum.

We decided to teach the pupils from the Primary School how to sort the litter,to explain that there are special containers for different types of litter like plastic ,metal, glass. We showed them what happens with the litter after it is collected. We made the plan of the lesson following all the steps of a lesson. We timed each part of the lesson .We had a lot of visual aids, posters ,video presentations. The pupils liked the lesson a lot .They asked us to come to them again. There were other teachers who also asked us to come to their school again and present this lesson again at their Ecology class. It was a great experience for the students.

Of course primary students can only be taught what litter is and how to recycle it. As you had to implement a community service project, you might have had your seniors out and clean the places around the school or wherever. This is called impact. The youngers will do the same in a year or two. Be sure.

Elena, your task was to make your students understand that they can change the world. This is, we think, the first step in making them repeat again and again the same activities in order to see their village a cleaner place. It will not be difficult for them at all to get together and organize by themselves cleaning days and involve as many as possible citizens from your community. They are already small experts in implementing their ideas. It is great they want to make a difference!

The resources which I choose to use from the YSA booklet was, "Learn More About Your Cause" (p. 3). "Map Community Resources & Assets" (p. 5), "Choose Your Action Strategy" (p. 6), "Put It All Together!" (p. 7) and "Gather a Planning Team" (p. 8). I believed these worksheets would help the students plan and organize the ideas to support or service learning project, which is creating a recycling club within our school. We plan to follow all of the steps outlined on the worksheets and use the information to make sure that we have covered all bases and moving toward having a successful service learning project.

As to to the second task of the assingment 5, I can mention that my students were actively engaged in this project after we have decided that we will help the elder people from our town. I gave each of them some tasks, and they fullfilled them individually, in pairs or in small groups, after the lessons . After fullfilling the their tasks they told me about it either orally(in such a way developping their speaking skills) or in written form, (this helped them to improve their writing skills). In generally they were very responsable for their work.

We held our face to face meeting with our Moldovan partner on April 25th. It was a great experience as the students from both groups were able to ask/answer questions about each other. They shared some cultural facts/ideas as well as their service learning project plan and progress. We have even planned to have another face to face meeting at a later date.

First, my student groups completed a poll of trending topics that are impacting our world today. After selecting the texting and driving issue, they had to decide how they would communicate to others, what their overall message would be, and how would they collect data and evidence. The students researched and shared various texting and driving campaigns and commercials via YouTube. They then analyzed the overall message and tools that were used so that they could use some of the ideas when creating their pitches to getting signatures of people committing.

We made good use of the "learning your cause" document to help us identify what causes were relevant to our community and what we realistically could tackle. We identified that we were a green school with green goals, and decided we wanted to access a cause that suited that goal. We looked at the suggested causes such as trees or endangered habitats, but decided we would like to help the animals of our community. Ours is an area where wildlife is important and many animals are injured and in need of help to get back into the wild.

When looking through learning about your cause one of the tips we found useful was map community resources and assets. This chart helped our student identify the people and resources they would need to complete their service learning project. We also enjoyed using the choosing your action strategy information. This helped our students really see what tasks they needed to complete to be successful. We will rely very heavily on volunteers and parents to support us through our service learning project.
